Four generations of service for the Blairstown Ambulance Corps

In June of 1952, after an injured Blairstown resident waited over two hours for an ambulance, Vic Stoffels and nine other members of the Rotary, chartered the Blairstown Ambulance Corps. Vic served 27 active years before he retired as a life member.
When Vic's daughter was dating a young man named Ian Lothian, Vic recruited him for the BAC as well. Ian became a member in 1964.
Ian found his second wife, Susan, at the BAC, when she joined in 1977. They were married in 1984. Ian shared his love for EMS with her until his death in 1995. This reporter remembers Ian during that tough time and he remains an inspiration.
Ian's youngest daughter Lorrie (Lothian) Schoemer became a member in 1984. She is now in her 25th active year and to this day she remains the only female to serve in the capacity as captain. Most dear in her memories is the time she spent working side by side with her dad when she was captain and he was president. She recalls having a mutual respect for one another while working in EMS together, something most offspring never get to experience with parents.
Forward to 2008. Lorrie's son is now 16 and he too has become a member. He is the first fourth generation member. Besides his younger brother Justin, he is the only contender for this elite status. Ryan started his EMT training this winter and is riding duty nights and weekends with his very proud mom.
This photo of Lorrie and Ryan was taken after they delivered their first patient to the hospital together on December 4, 2008
