BSFR firefighters worked late into the night to extinguish a stubborn scrap yard fire
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue firefighters were called to battle a scrap metal fire just before 11pm on Tuesday March 19th, 2019 at a recycling facility in Deerfield Beach.
Upon their arrival at Capital Scrap Metal located at 1610 S. Powerline Rd, firefighters were met with a large volume of fire encompassing a large mass of metal debris some 25-30 feet high. White smoke could be seen billowing into the night sky as rain soaked the area.
The fire was declared under control after about 30 minutes and was contained to the scrap pile. Firefighters will spend much of the night on site while heavy equipment is brought in to dismantle the debris field so firefighters can fully extinguish the fire.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire which appears to have started after business hours in unknown.
