November 24, 2025 — Members of the Polk County Fire Rescue recently completed focused training on structural collapse prevention, reinforcing the critical reality that these incidents are among the most time-sensitive operations in emergency response.
Fire officials emphasized that when a structure shows signs of failure, every second matters. The hands-on training allowed crews to practice stabilization techniques, equipment deployment, and coordinated team movements designed to stop or slow a collapse before it becomes catastrophic.
The department noted that this type of high-risk, low-frequency training is essential to ensure firefighters can perform under pressure with precision and speed—living by the principle that “Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.”

PCFR leaders said continual training like this strengthens operational readiness and helps protect both firefighters and the public during some of the most dangerous rescue scenarios.
