November 12, 2025 — The Lakeland Fire Department welcomed Florida CFO Blaise Ingoglia and members of his staff yesterday, joined by Representative Jennifer Kincart Jonsson and Representative Jennifer Canady for a special funding announcement focused on firefighter health and safety.
The Division of State Fire Marshal, operating under the Florida Department of Financial Services, awarded the department $35,625 in state funding to assist with the purchase of a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) washer. The new equipment will enhance decontamination procedures and aligns with statewide cancer-prevention standards for firefighters.
During the visit, Driver Engineer Paramedic Clay Gieger shared his personal journey as a cancer survivor, speaking on how legislation, awareness, and continued funding directly affect the safety and long-term health of firefighters across Florida.
Department leaders expressed their appreciation for the strong partnership between state officials and the fire service, emphasizing the shared commitment to protecting those who serve on the front lines.
