Attleboro, MA — November 4 — Crews from the Attleboro Fire Department were sent to 366 Washington Street at around 1:50 p.m. in response to a complaint of a car crashing into a structure. At the time of the occurrence, the pharmacy and convenience store was open and in use. When firefighters arrived, they discovered that a vehicle had collided with the building, breaking through the outside wall and causing serious damage.
AFD rescue workers assessed the driver, a senior citizen, and took him to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Neither clients nor staff were hurt. According to Fire Captain Nick Sheehan, if people had been in the affected portion of the structure, the situation might have gotten worse.
The Attleboro Building Inspector determined the structure had sustained substantial compromise, and the business was temporarily closed pending repairs and further review. Fire crews secured the scene and assisted city inspectors before clearing at 2:40 p.m.
