Middlesex, NY — November 21 — The Middlesex Hose Company's Rope Team collaborated with the Dundee Fire Department Rope Team to provide hands-on silo rescue training at a local farm. Silo situations involve sophisticated, technological activities that necessitate close coordination among responders. Because there are presently no official silo-rescue courses available in New York State, both teams used the simulation to practice the methods and equipment required for a safe rescue from an agricultural structure. While neither agency is designated as a silo rescue team, members obtained vital knowledge about the issues involved and how they would handle such a call if necessary. The agencies thanked the local farmer for granting access to the site, saying that such opportunities assist rural communities prepare for unique circumstances.
