November 11, 2025 — Citrus County Fire Rescue experienced a powerful full-circle moment yesterday as a cardiac arrest survivor returned to personally thank the crews and medical teams who helped save their life. The reunion brought together responders from CCFR, MedFleet Ambulance, HCA Florida Citrus Hospital, and HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.
The incident occurred in September, when Rescue and Engine 20 were dispatched to a fall/unknown medical call. Shortly after crews arrived, the patient went into cardiac arrest. Acting quickly, responders forced entry, initiated advanced life support, and successfully achieved ROSC (Return of Spontaneous Circulation)—a critical milestone in cardiac arrest survival.
The patient was stabilized at HCA Florida Citrus Hospital, later transferred to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital for continued care, and has since been discharged home following rehabilitation.
The lifesaving team included:
- EMT Aadyn Westrick
- Paramedic Joseph Favia
- Captain/Paramedic Brandon Schwing
- Driver Engineer/EMT Matt Esteves
- Firefighter/EMT Kamryn Martinez
CCFR commends the professionalism, skill, and teamwork displayed by everyone involved. Moments like these underscore the profound purpose behind the work of first responders and healthcare partners.
