Arcade, NY — November 20 — Arcade Fire Department Chief Brian Meyers and First Assistant Chief Dave Bray attended the annual FARMEDIC Training, which is a two-day event focused on agricultural crises. Responders from Wyoming County and numerous adjacent agencies discussed best practices for dealing with farm-related disasters like as fires, chemical exposures, medical emergencies, grain bin rescues, and equipment entrapments.
The training was followed by a presentation about a new farm hazard mapping initiative organized by the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and 4-H. Participants also visited Breezyhill Dairy and finished the weekend with a hands-on rescue exercise of two trapped victims. Arcade Fire stated that continued education in agriculture response helps firefighters prepare for the unique threats present in rural regions.
