Washington, DC - The DC Fire and EMS 4th Battalion fought 2 fires in the Columbia Heights neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, November 5th.

The first incident was reported shortly after noon in the 1200 block of Columbia Road NW. Firefighters arrived to find fire coming from a top floor window frame on a 3 story row house.

The flames also extended into the adjacent wall, but were quickly contained before they could spread further. A torch being used to perform exterior home repairs is believed to have ignited the blaze.

A large column of smoke visible from a distance signaled the start of the second blaze in the 2500 block of 13th Street NW.

Originally dispatched as a Local Alarm at 3:47 PM for a shed, a Box Alarm was requested when conditions indicated a potentially more serious fire.

First arriving firefighters encountered a 25X25 garage and vehicle fully engulfed in the rear alley. The flames were extinguished before they could extend to adjacent homes.

There were no injuries in either incident. Investigators are looking into the cause of the second fire.
