Beaver, Pa. — October 16 — As part of Fire Prevention Month, Park Presbyterian Preschool students were greeted by the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department on Thursday. Smoke alarms, house escape plans, and what kids should do in the event of smoke or fire were all covered in Chief Meers' brief instruction on age-appropriate fire safety. Building confidence and assisting young kids in understanding safe behaviors were the main goals of the program.

Following the lecture session, the students were shown basic safety drills and given a tour of the department's equipment by Lieutenant Herbert and Lieutenant Healy. The kids learnt how firefighters react to emergencies while getting a close-up look at firefighting equipment. The department's ongoing outreach to nearby schools was aided by the initiative.
