Oct. 6, 2025 — At approximately 5:00 p.m., the Chappaqua Fire Department (CFD) was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with extrication and fire.
While en route, dispatch updated units that New Castle Police were already on scene and confirmed the vehicle was on fire but that the occupants had safely exited. Deputy Chief Maitland was the first fire officer to arrive and relayed the situation to Chief Zezze (Car 2062) as additional units responded.
Rescue 23 was first on scene and immediately stretched a hoseline to begin suppression efforts. Engine 146 arrived shortly after, and together the two apparatus worked in tandem, using their onboard water tanks to fully extinguish the blaze.
The collision also damaged utility poles belonging to Con Edison and Verizon, and the scene was turned over to those companies after fire operations concluded. Fire crews remained until approximately 6:30 p.m..
After returning to the firehouse, firefighters and equipment underwent decontamination protocols, as responders and hose lines had been exposed to poison ivy at the crash site. Crews carefully washed down turnout gear and hoses to prevent further spread.
CFD expressed appreciation to its partners on scene, including New Castle Police, Westchester EMS (45 Medic), and Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps, for their assistance and support.
