On August 5, 2020, the Brunswick No.1 Fire Company along with Mountain View Fire Department for the F.A.S.T. Team and Center Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company Responded to 5 Genesee St. for a reported structure fire. The caller reported a kitchen fire on the second floor of the residence and the occupants were evacuating.
Center Brunswick car three quickly arrived on scene and notified the dispatcher that he had smoke showing from the second floor rear portion of the building. The dispatcher notified Brunswick No.1 Car one of the arrival report. Truck four quickly arrived on scene and deployed a single hand line to the rear of the structure. Firefighters stretched the hand line up the back staircase and made entry to the second floor and quickly knock down the working kitchen fire. Firefighters use the thermal imaging camera to check for extension into any other portion of the kitchen. The house was heavily charged with smoke and firefighters use the ventilation fan to remove all of the smoke from the second floor.
Firefighters conducted overhaul of the second-floor kitchen area and removed the stove, hood, and cabinets that were affected by the fire. The fire is currently under investigation at this time by the Rensselaer County Fire Investigators. No injuries were reported on scene.
