Third-Alarm Damages Lodi Building

LODI, NJ - On September 1st at approximately 9:25 A.M., the Lodi Fire Department was dispatched to at 11 Union St. on reports of smoke coming from the roof of J & J Tires & Wheels.

With fire headquarters just across the street, smoke showing was confirmed by arriving Ladder 613 who quickly transmitted a second-alarm. Heavy smoke was issuing from the inside of the building and from the roof area. As companies arrived and stretched lines the fire was located in the cockloft area of the building. Companies had to open the truss roof to get to the source of the fire.

A third-alarm was struck for manpower, bringing additional mutual aid into the town. Crews had the fire knocked down within 45 minutes. One firefighter was treated for a minor injury. Mutual aid at the scene or standing by came from Garfield, Little Ferry, Rochelle Park, Saddle Brook, Maywood, Wallington and Wood-Ridge. Hackensack Air unit and County wide canteen also operated on scene.

The building is located in front of Speed Auto Body on Rennie Place, where another fire was fought on August 5th. The Lodi Fire Department would like to thank Napoli Pizza for their donation of pizza pies to feed our responders. The Lodi Fire Prevention Bureau was investigating the cause.
