Southwest Florida community leaders and supporters will have their heads shaved by Golisano Children's Hospital patients battling cancer...and several members of our Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District are joining in to show their support! Leading up to the event, the Lee Health Foundation will share stories of our local heroes' cancer journeys as well as why the "Shavees" are having their heads shaved in support of pediatric cancer awareness month and Barbara's Friends - Golisano Children's Hospital's Cancer Fund.

Clips for Cancer started in 2018 after Golisano Children's Hospital CAO, Armando Llechu, met a very special girl named McKenzie. Eleven years ago on January 29th, 2008, eight-year-old Mackenzie was diagnosed with an aggressive, cancerous brain tumor called medulloblastoma. Twenty surgeries, thirty radiation treatments, ten months of chemotherapy, and numerous hospital stays would follow. Currently, McKenzie is battling late-effect complications as a result of the treatments she received to save her life. She is a strong young hero that continues to defy the odds every day.

“MacKenzie has been an inspiration to me. From the moment I met MacKenzie, I knew she possessed more strength and courage in her little body than I could ever hope to. I was simultaneously encouraged by her strength and saddened by the struggle that is so real in the lives of those we serve,” said Llechu. “I knew that day that in order to really care for our patients and families, we needed to connect with them and show our support and solidarity in a fun, yet meaningful way."

Donations to Barbara’s Friends - Golisano Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund will make a difference in the life of a child with cancer or a blood disorder. We are hoping our involvement will support their mission to fund programs, services, equipment, and the best in medical care for the children of our community so no child will have to leave home for treatment.

Our "Shavees" each have personal goals to raise before the big event. Each of their links are posted below.
