FLORIDA FORESTRY CATCHING LIGHTING FOR A WEEK

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Florida Forestry District# 15 had a lighting packed week. The district has been chasing lightning strikes every afternoon, with half a dozen new starts every day and multiple fires over a hundred acres. Resources were stretched thin as the fires grew rapidly due to the drought-like conditions. Fires not only moved quickly but also burned into the ground which is a labor intense operation. Firefighters were also hampered by passing Thunderstorms which created bursts. Eventually a strike team of engines, and a taskforce of dozers were called to help assist the District.
