May 23, 2020 – City of McKeesport, Allegheny County – At 11:53pm, fire crews were dispatched to the Hi View Gardens Apartments, located along 6th Street for a report of a fire in one of the buildings. Shortly after dispatch, crews were advised a second call was reporting an apartment on fire on the first floor. Crews arrived to find a working fire with possible entrapment due to unaccounted residents. A second alarm was quickly requested. Firefighters quickly sent teams in to search the building for possible victims and to attack the fire. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down, but the fire had already started to run the walls of the building. Crews continued to chase the fire and it soon began to run the roof of the building. A third alarm was then requested. Crews worked for several hours before the fire was finally brought under control at 3:34am. One resident was transported to a hospital for undisclosed injuries. The fire is still under investigation and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
