POTTSVILLE, PA - On April 14th at 6:28 A.M., the fire department was called to 444 Claude A. Lord Blvd. for a building fire. Incoming companies were met with a heavy grey smoke condition spreading throughout the two-story building. The structure housed five businesses and several apartments, of which two apartment dwellers were displaced. Rt. 61 (Claude A. Lord Blvd.), a busy four lane highway, had to be shut down due to an LDH supply line coming up from a hydrant on a street below the highway. The fire was difficult to control and locate, as the building had a lot of open spaces between the walls, ceilings and floors. Numerous mutual aid companies assisted the PFD at the scene, plus stand by units were at the PFD and mutual aid stations. The fire was placed under control at 8:33 A.M.
