OXFORD, CT — March 18th — A reported barn fire on River Road prompted the Oxford Center Volunteer Fire Company to deploy to Southbury on mutual aid. After arriving, Car 1 and Rescue 44 were designated as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), offering standby coverage to the workers working on the incident. In order to support firefighter safety during interior operations, RIT assignments are a routine practice at working occurrences.
Southbury Engine 6 created a draft from the neighbouring Housatonic River to sustain the water supply due to restricted hydrant access. Rescue 44 used its winch to help Engine 6 move the equipment back onto the road while cleaning the area. Units returned to duty when the assignment was finished, and no injuries were reported.
