Explosion and Collapse During Multi Alarm Fire in Glassport

Glassport, PA - The Glassport Fire Department responded to a major apartment fire with heavy fire conditions and rapid extension. Crews conducted interior operations before transitioning to a defensive attack as conditions worsened.


A backdraft caused an explosion and partial collapse, leading to a Mayday and emergency evacuation. All firefighters self extricated with minor injuries. Fire spread to a neighboring structure, requiring additional alarms.


Two cats were rescued alive, and crews operated for an extended period alongside mutual aid. The incident remains under investigation.
