WOODBURY, NJ — April 11th — On an automatic mutual assistance assignment, the Woodbury Fire Department sent Engine 5, Ladder 5, Battalion 5, Deputy 5, and Utility 5 to West Deptford Township close to the Sunoco Refinery on Crown Point Road. On a working incident, crews from Gloucester and Camden counties collaborated with other agencies. Engine 5 was tasked with providing exposure protection in the vicinity of residences off 8th Street.
As the fire spread, firefighters set up three handlines and a water supply to protect the backs of many homes. While command personnel organized resources, Ladder 5 supported operations. There were no reported injuries among Woodbury employees. Until the situation settled and the danger to surrounding structures decreased, crews stayed on the spot. Extended operations and interagency coordination were necessary due to the incident.
