El Cajon, CA - At approximately 6:40 p.m. Tuesday evening, March 11th, Heartland Fire & Rescue crews from El Cajon, assisted by crews from San Miguel Fire, Santee Fire and Lakeside Fire, were dispatched to reports of a vehicle accident that resulted in a person being swept away into Forrester Creek in El Cajon. Fire crews arrived in the area within 6 minutes to discover a single vehicle accident at I-8 Westbound at 2nd Street, in a ditch off the freeway. That section of the freeway parallels Forester Creek. The passenger of the vehicle, an adult female, was subsequently swept away from the vehicle at a time when the rain was causing a heavy downpour and the river was full. Crews located the victim within 13 minutes and multiple search points were set up to attempt to rescue the victim. Rivers during a heavy downpour rain can reach rapid speeds and can rise very quickly.

The victim was removed from the water within 45 minutes of the initial accident at the Prospect Bridge in Santee, above Forester Creek. The victim was transported to Sharp Grossmont Hospital.
