More than 100 firefighters from across Essex have been tackling a fire in a power station today.
The fire service was alerted to the fire at about 07:45 this morning.
The fire is reported to be affecting fuel hoppers each contained over 2,000 tonnes of wood pellets.
The Power Station is undergoing from coal burning to biomass fuels to generate electricity.
It is not clear how the fire started or how it became so serious.
Some 16 fire engines along with three aerial ladder platforms and a bulk foam unit battled to contain the blaze.
Because the fire was at high level there were fears that the building could become unsafe for fire crews to enter and tackle internally.
There was an added danger that was considered, with large volumes of water being used the hoppers may collapse, high expansion foam was brought to the scene and is being used to tackle the fire.
It is expected that crews will be on scene for many hours and it could take days to finally fully extinguish.
Meanwhile in Essex there other incidents requiring further resources including crews from over the border in London, questions are being raised again regarding jump crewing of specialist vehicles and significant reduction in firefighter numbers.
It recently emerged that firefighter numbers have fallen far quicker than had been panned for, cuts to front line emergency response have been subject to much attention by a number of groups and local politicians in recent months.
