Washington, DC - Nobody was injured and a dog was rescued after fire gutted an apartment in the Columbia Heights neighborhood on Tuesday, February 4th.

A Box Alarm was dispatched at 1:46 P.M. for a reported apartment fire in the 1300 block of Columbia Road NW. Firefighters arrived to find fire showing from a second floor unit of an occupied three-story garden style apartment building, and a Working Fire Dispatch was requested.

An aggressive interior attack was initiated on the flames, and a search of the burning apartment led to the discovery and removal of a pet cat and dog. The fire was extinguished before it could spread from the apartment of origin.

Sadly, the cat was beyond saving, but oxygen was provided to Sonny the dog, who quickly rebounded.

Two adults and one child were displaced by the blaze, and received assistance from the American Red Cross. Investigators were looking into the cause of the fire.
