SOUTH BERWICK, ME - Emergency crews from South Berwick and neighboring communities responded to a serious head-on motor vehicle crash on Route 236 near Old Mill Road on Monday, January 27th, at approximately 12:50 p.m.
South Berwick Fire, South Berwick Police, and York Ambulance were dispatched to the scene and found two heavily damaged vehicles with a large debris field spread across the roadway. Both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles upon arrival.
Firefighters from Engine 1 and Engine 4 deployed hydraulic rescue tools to perform simultaneous extrications. Due to the severity of the incident, Dover Fire & Rescue responded with a second ambulance to assist with patient care and transport. Both drivers were successfully extricated and transported to local hospitals for treatment. No additional details on their conditions were immediately available.
Following the extrications, emergency crews cleared the wreckage and debris from the roadway. Route 236 was reopened a short time later.
