The Lyndhurst Fire Department was called to a reported electrical fire inside a home in the 700 block of Fourth Street early on December 25. The event was first reported via a 9-1-1 call, and the first police units to arrive were informed that there was a lot of smoke inside the house. When Chief 32-00 arrived, he verified that the fire assignment was operational. The North Arlington Fire Department was asked to react as a FAST unit due to the incident's severity.

Fire conditions reaching through an inner wall from the basement level were discovered by the first fire departments to arrive. Crews quickly brought the situation under control by opening up the impacted sections and putting out all visible fire. There were no reported injuries. The residents were temporarily relocated when the Lyndhurst Building Department declared the house uninhabitable. It was found that the fire was electrical in origin.
