Sturbridge Firefighters Strengthen Hazardous Materials Response with ERG Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Sturbridge, MA - Sturbridge Firefighters conducted on-duty training focused on the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG), a critical resource used to identify hazardous materials incidents, determine safe evacuation distances, and guide initial mitigation efforts.

The training consisted of both a classroom review of the guidebook and a hands-on practical exercise conducted at the Pilot Truck Stop. This combination of instruction and real-world application helps ensure firefighters are well-prepared to respond to hazardous situations.

With high volumes of traffic on local roads and interstate highways, this type of training remains essential in maintaining readiness and protecting the community during high-risk incidents.
