Earlier this week, members of Washington Hook & Ladder Co. #1 of the Secaucus Fire Department participated in an intensive afternoon of vehicle extrication training, sharpening the critical skills needed to respond effectively during emergency situations.
The hands-on session focused on a variety of realistic scenarios, including forced entry, strategic tool deployment, and rapid patient access. Each drill was designed to simulate high-pressure conditions where timing, coordination, and precision can make the difference between life and death.
Participants worked through the full extrication process—from stabilizing compromised vehicles to operating hydraulic rescue tools. Crews practiced removing doors, breaking glass, and creating safe access points, all while maintaining clear communication and situational awareness.
The training emphasized teamwork and trust, reinforcing the importance of working cohesively in dynamic and often unpredictable environments. Members relied on one another to execute each step safely and efficiently, mirroring the collaboration required on real emergency scenes.
With a strong turnout and high level of engagement, the session proved to be both productive and valuable. Opportunities like this ensure that Secaucus firefighters remain prepared, confident, and ready to serve the community when it matters most.
