Bethlehem Lights in the Park Christmas Event

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

The Bethlehem Police Department held a Lights in the Park on Saturday, December 12, as a substitute to the annual town parade.

Cars lined up across town to make it through the drive-through holiday light event at the Elm Avenue Park.

Decorated vehicles from Bethlehem Police, Delmar-Bethlehem EMS, Delmar, Elsmere, Selkirk, Slingerlands, North Bethlehem and New Salem fire departments, as well as other sponsors lined up the parking lots of the town park for vehicles to drive through and see the lights.

The first 250 vehicles to enter received a cupcake decorating kit from Perfect Blend Bakery and a goodie bag with crafts and hot cocoa.

There was no entrance fee, but people could make a donation of an unwrapped toy for the toy drive.

Kids could also deliver their letters to Santa as he waved from aboard Delmar Fire Department's antique fire apparatus.

Kids also got a surprise from the Grinch.

There were nearly 1,000 cars that drove through the Lights in the Park event.
