Trevose, PA - The Trevose Fire Company in Bensalem Township, Bucks County has run a volunteer shift program for over two years. The program which is funded by a SAFER Grant allows the fire company to staff a crew of four members, twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. Their crews respond to fire and EMS emergencies in both Bensalem Township as well as neighboring Lower Southampton Township. Crews receive a stipend payment for 12 hour shifts staffed,

They continually recruit experienced members for the program. Program requirements include IFSAC/Proboard Firefighter 1, current Hazardous Materials Operations, Proboard or Pennsylvania Department of Health Vehicle Rescue Technician as well as current CPR and First Aid. Emergency Medical Responder or Emergency Medical Technician certifications are considered a plus as Station 4 responds to over 500 QRS EMS responses annually.

The fire company conducts a monthly orientation program to give "new to Trevose" members an opportunity to meet the officers as well as obtain some hands on experience with the equipment on board the Trevose apparatus. The new members familiarize themselves with things such as self contained breathing apparatus, hose loads and radio procedures on the Bucks County radio system.
