Prescribed Burn at Albany Pine Bush Preserve

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

A prescribed burn was conducted at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve on Saturday, April 10.

The Albany Pine Bush Preserve staff and local volunteers took part in numerous prescribed burns on the property.

The Pine Bush conducts multiple burns every year to maintain the Preserve.

The burning helps to eliminate pest insects and remove unwanted plant species that threaten the ecosystem, as well as other benefits to the area.

The staff and volunteers go over various methods and techniques for wildland firefighting and use some of their skills during the burns.

Areas that are designated to be burned are carefully ignited and burn the area.

The recent prescribed burns on Saturday focused on the plant beds around the parking lot and around the Discovery Center.
