SAINT CLAIR (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA - On July 11, 2010, at 9:45 p.m., the Saint Clair Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to Saint Clair Community Swimming Pool, for a possible building fire. The caller reported to the 911 dispatcher, that smoke and flames were coming from the pool building. The Saint Clair Police went on scene and reported they had a fire in the building. They said the fire was spreading to the hazardous chemicals that were stored in the building. The Fire Chief then requested that the commercial structure fire, run card be dispatched. Pottsville City Goodwill Engine 41 and Phoenix Ladder 21 were then dispatched for a working commercial structure fire.
Columbia Engine 702 was the first engine on scene and staged at the pool’s complex front gate. East Mines Engine 704 laid in LDH from the hydrant and gave it to Engine 702. Engine 702 then established a water supply from a hydrant. The firefighters then forced their way into the building, to find a small fire inside. The engine crew advance a hose line inside and knocked down the fire. The smoke could be seen, venting from the building through the roof vents. Saint Clair Ladder 703 and Tower 701 stage on the D Side and sent its crew to the building to do ventilation work.
The West End Engine was the third engine company on the scene and staged to the rear of the structure. The engine stood by to establish a second water supply from a hydrant. The rest of the Saint Clair Fire Department units and Pottsville Engine 41, staged in the rear of the building and sent their manpower to the scene to assist in operations.
The Saint Clair Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and the building was vented. The Fire Chief reported that the building received moderate smoke and heat damage. The Fire Chief believes the quick response of the firefighters, prevented the fire spreading to the pool chemicals. The Fire Chief believes the fire started in an arcade video game, inside the building.
