| Brantley County EMS Fleet |
Brantley County EMS is located in Southeast Georgia. It serves over 30,000 citizens covering a land mass of 447 square miles with three manned Advanced Life Support ambulances, and two spares. With average transport time being 45 minutes and distance of 30 miles, the importance of early reconciliation of heart attack and stroke is imperative.
Brantley’s 21 full time employees. reversed the definitions of appreciation for National EMS Appreciation Week and escalated the meaning of service by being servants instead of sitting on it’s accolade’s. Brantley EMS employees gracefully spent three hundred man hours, in 90 degree temperature, at three strategically locations within the county checking blood pressures, blood glucose, oxygen saturation and pulse rates for our citizens. . During the health fair checks, the focus was to educate the citizens of their risks of stroke and heart attacks by identifying hypertension and hyperglycemia. One person was taken to the hospital for hypertensive crisis, had a cardiac catheterization and immediate intervention to prevent a heart attack. After the incident his family came back to the site to thank EMS and have their own vitals checked
During the week long event, first responders from the local fire departments participated in the screenings. A dinner was prepared to show them how much EMS appreciates them.
The announcement of Brantley‘s EMS week’s events was in the local newspapers. The article boasted it’s accomplishments and told the history of the county service which included the story of the first ambulance. The gentleman that donated the 1957 bread truck, in 1970, was one of many that came not only to be screened, but also to reflect on Brantley EMS‘s heritage..
