Accident with Injury on Center Road - Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 - 1 Vehicle accident

The Lebanon Rescue Department, Maine State Police and Lebanon Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with injury on Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010.
The accident was reported around 8:35am and was located on Center Road, near the intersection of Upper Cross Road.
A 2009 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling south on Center Road when a deer came out in front of the vehicle. The operator quickly pulled the vehicle to the right to avoid the collision with the deer and subsequently went into the ditch. His vehicle hit a culvert and went airborne and landed on the other side of the driveway on top of a stone wall. The driver was wearing his seatbelt and the airbags deployed, both which played a significant role in the driver only obtaining minor injuries.
Due to the fact that the vehicle landed on top of a stone wall and in the ditch, the driver had to be removed out the rear of the vehicle. It took rescue and fire crews about 1/2 hour to extricate him from the vehicle. The patient was extricated at 9:08am.
Traffic was closed to one lane while emergency crews worked to extricate the patient and then remove the vehicle.
The vehicle was equipped with On-Star which made the initial notification to our dispatch, and then several other motorists and neighbors called. We had a firefighter and a rescue member on scene within 2 minutes as they were right on the road when the call came in.
The driver, a 70 year old male from Center Lebanon, was not transported to the hospital for his injuries. He was treated at the scene by rescue personnel.
The vehicle suffered heavy damage and was towed from the scene.
Trooper Dan Worster from the Maine State Police is investigating the accident.
Emergency crews were on scene for about an hour and a half - clearing around 10am.
