Exhaustion was set upon the many firefighters on the scene. Shown here is Good-Will Lieutenant John Gaudioso Jr. getting some relief.
TOWN OF NEWBURGH, N.Y. A fully involved house was engulfed in flames as firefighters arrived at the scene of 30 Frozen Ridge Road in the Town of Newburgh during the early morning hours of July 2nd. At approximately 1:05 a.m., the Middle Hope Fire Department was dispatched for a reported structure fire at that location. First to arrive on the scene, Middle Hope Chief Ed Bailey stated, " There was fire throughout the entire home with electrical service lines that fell off and began burning and arcing on the ground."
Almost immediately a second alarm was transmitted bringing in additional fire crews from Cronomer Valley, Good-Will and the Marlboro Fire Department from nearby Ulster County. During this time two firefighters sustained injuries where one was treated on the scene for a sprain to his hand and another with a leg injury due to a fall off the back deck of the home. That firefighter was transported to a local hospital by Town of Newburgh Ambulance. Also responding to the scene were two ALS units from Mobile Life Support Paramedics.
Several units from the Town of Newburgh Police raced to the scene of the fire only to soon find that their cruisers were blocked in by the nearly 23 emergency vehicles that responded to assist. It was reported that the homeowners were not in the house at that time, but had returned shortly after the fire started. It was not confirmed if they had made arrangements for assistance in finding alternate shelter.
Most neighbors could be seen outside in their pajamas and robes to capture glimpses of the action that unfolded before them. Frozen Ridge Road was shut down by Cronomer Valley's Fire Police for a few hours before firefighters began to clear the scene. Town of Newburgh Fire Investigators Tom Dubetsky and Vince Spampinato determined that the cause and origin was due to an electrical problem. Orange County's Car 13 Charlie Piper was also on hand at the scene to assist Middle Hope Command with their duties. Central Hudson Gas and Electric had cut power to that fallen electrical line to ensure the safety of fire personnel on the ground. No other injuries were reported at that time.
