AUSTERLITZ, NY - On December 1, 2009 Columbia County 911 dispatched the Austerlitz Fire District and Chatham Rescue to a reported fire alarm activation at 118 Spencer Road in the Town of Austerlitz. The alarm was dispatched just before 7a.m.
Austerlitz Car 2 arrived on scene and reported a working structure fire. Mutual aid was requested from Canaan, Red Rock, Lebanon Valley, East Chatham, Chatham and Hillsdale. Craryville stood by in their own quarters for Hillsdale.
While fighting the fire a Red Rock firefighter fell through the floor into the basement but was not injured.
Water to fight the fire was obtained from a pond across the road from the home.
The Columbia County Fire Coordinators Office was on the scene.
The Austerlitz Fire District was dispatched back to the scene at 8:31 p.m. and 7:32 a.m. the next day for rekindles.
The fire is under investigation by the Columbia County Cause and Origin Team.
