TOWN of NEWBURGH, NY - An accident prone intersection was once again the scene of a two car motor vehicle crash that left two injured and traffic tied up for over an hour. On Saturday evening, August 9th, at 4:56 p.m., the Orange Lake Fire Department was called to this accident scene by Orange County Fire Control.
Vincent Spampinatio, Chief of Orange Lake in the Town of Newburgh arrived to size up the scene, which was located at the intersection of Route 52 and Rock Cut Road, and subsequently requested a helicopter to be launched. Town of Newburgh Ambulance along with Mobile Life Support Paramedics also responded to treat the injured on the scene.
Town of Newburgh Police, along with a contingent from the Orange Lake Fire Police, operated at the scene gathering information from both parties involved as well as helping to control the large volume of vehicular traffic at that intersection during the accident investigation. It was reported that both vehicles involved, an early model green Jeep Cherokee, operated by Scott Brundage of Wallkill, and an early model red Kia Sportage operated by Elliot Washington of Walden, were both injured as a result of this crash.
Washington was treated at the scene by EMS personnel while Brundage was transported to the nearby Orange Lake Fire Station to a STAT Flight Helicopter that awaited at a landing zone in that area. He was flown with serious injuries to St Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. As the scene was disentangled, units were beginning to return back to service by 6:00 p.m. No other injuries were reported at that time. Traffic that was backed up in all directions leading to that intersection began to clear soon after. While the accident is still being investigated, citations were pending for at least one of the drivers involved.
