The vehicles involved in the motor vehicle accident that injured six.
LEBANON, ME - The Lebanon Rescue Department, York County Sheriff''s Department and Lebanon Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries on Sunday afternoon, May 17, 2009. The accident was reported at 3:08 p.m. and was located on Carl Broggi Highway at the intersection of Upper Middle Road near the Sanford town line. Assistant Chief Jason Cole arrived on scene with the EMS Command vehicle at 3:11 p.m. and established EMS Command.
"When emergency crews arrived on scene about three minutes after the accident happened, they located two vehicles involved and a total of six patients. Three patients were transported to Frisbie Hospital in Rochester, NH for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. Three other patients did not require to be transported to the hospital for their injuries." Assistant Chief Jason Cole stated.
A 2002 Nissan Frontier traveling eastbound on Carl Broggi Highway had reportedly slowed to turn left onto Upper Middle Road when it turned in the path of a 1997 Ford Taurus traveling westbound on Carl Broggi Highway, causing the two vehicles to collide.
The driver of the Ford Taurus was a 43-year-old female. Her front seat passenger was her 49-year-old husband. In the rear seat was their 11-year-old son. All three live in Northwood, NH. All three were wearing their seat belts and the airbags deployed. All three were transported by Lebanon Rescue to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the 2002 Nissan Frontier was a 41-year-old female from Dover, NH. In the rear passenger seat were her 7-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter. All received minor injuries and did not require transport to the hospital. All were wearing their seat belts.
"If you look at the severity of the damage to the vehicles, you see that the seat belts helped prevent more serious injuries. All six patients were wearing their seat belts and all were able to get out of the vehicles on their own." Rescue Chief Samantha Cole added.
The accident is under investigation by Deputy Kevin Ledoux of the York County Sheriff's Department.
One lane of Carl Broggi Highway was closed as rescue personnel treated the six patients. Firefighters provided traffic control at the scene. The road was reopened around 4:00 p.m. in both directions.
Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene due to the damage.
