An early morning structure fire on January 17, 2008 located at 28 Knitt Road, T/ Stockport, Columbia County, forced a woman to jump from a second story window to escape the flames. On initial dispatch, Stockport and Stottville Firefighters, under automatic mutual aid response, were dispatched by Columbia County 911 at 2:14 am to the fully involved structure fire with a report of a female trapped inside.
Additionally, West Ghent, Stuyvesant Falls and Stuyvesant Firefighters were called to the scene with their tankers. A water supply was established with portable ponds at the scene and water trucked in from a hydrant a short distance away. Firefighters also had to contend with below freezing temperatures hovering around 20 degrees F.
It was reported that Greenport Rescue Squad transported the female occupant and another male occupant with unspecified injuries to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY. Greenport Rescue also treated two other individuals at the scene but they were not transported to the hospital.
The Columbia County Cause and Origin team was called in to investigate the cause. Additionally, the Columbia County Fire Coordinators Office and uniformed members of The New York State Police were on scene.
