BARNEGAT, NJ - On February 28, 2009 members of the Boy Scouts of America NJ District 4 held their Merit Badge Fair at the Brackman Middle School in Barnegat. Assistant Scout Leader and Forked River Firefighter Jim Ivins was on hand to present the class for the Fire Safety Badge.
The Scouts were first educated in the classroom about fire science, fire extinguishers and fire safety. They were given detailed safety tips for both home and out at the camp sites as well as proper procedures in case of an emergency.
The Scouts were then taken outside for a demonstration and explanation of how Forked River Fire Department's Brush Truck 6029 operates and it's capabilities and limitations. They were able to get a hands on experience with the tools and equipment as well as operating the hose lines.
