CLARENDON, NY - A young man was killed in a tragic two vehicle collision that occurred in Clarendon NY around 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2009.
Ronald E Boyd, 50 of Holley and his son Austin J Boyd, 19 of Holley NY, were heading East on State Route 31-A in their 2002 Saturn when they were struck by a vehicle operated by James R Renfrew, 55 of Holley.
According to officials; Renfrew was heading north on South Holley Road when his vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and crashed into the right side of Boyd’s vehicle sending both vehicles careening off the road and coming to rest in a residential yard.
The Clarendon Fire Department was dispatched immediately along with ambulances from Holley, Kendall, Brockport and a Paramedic Fly-Car from Monroe Ambulance. Mercy Flight, of Buffalo NY, was requested but was unable to fly due to weather.
Renfrew and James Boyd were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester NY, with non life threatening injuries, officials said.
Austin Boyd was pronounced dead at the scene by Orleans County Coroner Scott M Schmidt. He was extricated from the wrecked vehicle by the Clarendon Fire Department. An autopsy will be performed by the Monroe County Medical Examiners Office to determine the exact cause of death.
Preliminary reports from the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department indicated that Renfrew failed to stop at the stop sign on South Holley Road and collided with Boyd’s car.
It does not appear that alcohol or excess speed were contributing factors, officials said.
Lieutenant R. E. Perry and Deputy M. J. Yarid of the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department are conducting the investigation with the assistance of the New York State Troopers.
