Fire Police equipment is loaded into a vehicle donated by the Fuller Road Fire Department to the Menands Fire Department.
The Fuller Road Fire Department has come to the aid of a neighboring department, who lost a fire police utility vehicle in an accident that claimed the life of a fire police captain. The department has donated a Chevrolet Suburban Tahoe to the Menands Department, for as long as it takes to get the Menands vehicle replaced. the Vehicle was totaled in an accident April 3rd when it was struck by a tanker truck on Interstate 787 as three fire police responded to the scene of a motorcycle accident. One of the Fire police, captain Edgar Scott died in the crash with the others suffering minor injuries. The utility vehicle damaged in the accident carried all fire police equipment and could double as a mobile command post if needed. "Without that vehicle," according to Menands Fire chief Frank Primo, " our fire police had no way of responding with the appropriate needs to direct traffic." Fuller Road chief Kevin Terry says his department has a vehicle replacement schedule and this vehicle was up for replacement. He said they decided its best use would be to donate it to Menands. "It's one hand washing the other", said Terry. " I can pretty much guarantee we'd have the same kind of response if we were in a similar situation." "It's a big brotherhood in Colonie," added Primo, "and we do appreciate everything the town has done for us."
