CAPE MAY NJ - On December 7th late Friday morning District 5 toned both the Cape May City Fire Department (Station 51) and United States Coast Guard Training Center Fire Department (Station 59) to the intersection of Delaware and Pittsburgh Avenues for a reported rollover with a possible entrapment.
Station 51 responded with engines 31, 32, rescue 72, and ambulances 96 and 97 while station 59 responded with engine 31, rescue 71 and USCG ambulance 72. Coast Guard 5902 (Deputy Chief Alt was around the block when the call came in and arrived first on scene).
He reported a 1 car MVA with a roll over and a utility pole down, but driver was able to get out of the car on his own power. Station 51 units arrived shortly after with Cape May City Chief Jerry Inderwise assuming command.
He directed engine 5131 to stretch a precautionary line and the rest of the members on the scene to attend to the victim. By this time the USCGFD units had arrived on scene and they were directed to stabilize the vehicle while the USCG ambulance crew was directed to stand by for the members operating on the scene.
Cape May City FD ambulance 96 transported the 17 year old male driver to Cape Regional Medical Center with amazingly only minor injuries.
Fire Department units stood by for about an hour until the scene was deemed safe by public service.
