Orange Lake Fire Units arrive at the "scene" as firefighters scramble to get their attack lines close to the car fire.
TOWN OF NEWBURGH, NY - The Orange Lake Fire Department (Dan Leghorn Engine Co.) recently hosted the Town of Newburgh Police Department's Junior Police Academy. On Fri. July 15.
Staff and cadets attended a classroom instruction on arson awareness, as well as fire safety and investigation. Following this, the 25 cadets were led out to the training center behind the fire station. At that time firefighters held a live burn exercise on a vehicle.
Cadets were able to view firsthand how a car fire evolves, as well as response and extinguishment. The Town of Newburgh JPA runs for two weeks every summer and firefighters are a big part of that training. Led by Director Tom O'Connell, Officers Patrick Cadden, Thomas Yozzo, and Henry Lawson conduct the day-to-day activities for this academy. All 25 cadets involved are given first hand experience on many of the matters instructed.
A special thanks also goes out to Orange Lake's Assistant Chief Vince Spampinato for his participation. Spampinato is also a police officer and town fire investigator, or as we say, a man of many hats.
