DAUPHIN COUNTY, PA - On July 12, 2010, with heavy rain coming down in Upper Dauphin County, at 4:14 p.m., Box 21-2 was dispatched to 655 Mohr Road, Washington Township, for a reported structure fire. The initial alarm brought units from Companies 21 (Elizabethville), 20 (Millersburg) and an MICU from Company 6 (Medic 6). Chief and Engine 21, went en-route and Dauphin County Communications advised both that they were receiving multiple calls that the house had been struck by lightning and there was fire from the roof.
MICU 6-3 arrived on the scene, confirmed fire from the roof and reported a pond about 100 yards from the driveway, that lead to the scene. As units arrived on scene and went to work, Command 21 requested the full first-alarm to be dispatched to the scene. This brought the remainder of Company 20 (Millersburg), as well as units from Companies 22 (Lykens), 26 (Berrysburg) and 29 (Halifax). Engine 20 arrived and took the assignment of being the supply engine. Engine 20 drafted from the pond and supplied Engine 21 through a lay of five inch supply hose from the pond, to the scene.
Tanker 216 and Tanker were then dispatched in place of units that had failed to respond. Both tankers arrived and were staged at 746 Mohr Road. As crews continued to chase fire throughout the second floor, command 21 asked that an additional truck and two additional engines, be dispatched to the scene for additional manpower. This brought Truck 22 (Lykens), Engine 23 (Wiconisco) and Engine 27 (Gratz) to the scene. At the same time, transfers were starting to take place. Engine 24 (Williamstown) transferred to Station 21, Engine 38 (Dauphin) transferred to Station 23 and Schuylkill Engine 650 transferred to Station 22.
Command then marked control and held the box to Companies 21, 20, 22, 26, and 27 and released all other units. Extensive overhaul was then performed and the box was finally placed in service after units had been out for just under three hours.
