ORANGE COUNTY, NY - At 15:30hours Saturday afternoon July 2, the Cronomer Valley Fire Department was called to “a car fire near a structure” on Weyants Lane in the Town of Newburgh.
Upon arriving at the scene, Chief Kevin Ostrander radioed Orange County Fire Dispatch that he had three cars fully involved in a working fire near a house with people inside. It was reported that one or more of the occupants might have been physically handicap and assistance in their escape was needed. Chief Ostrander directed a resound of his alarm for all hands, and for Goodwill Fire Department to respond an engine for standby in their district on mutual aid.
The Town of Newburgh Police was able to safely evacuate the occupants of the home and Cronomer Valley’s quick response to a very serious fire condition saved the home from direct fire involvement and exposure.
Central Hudson Gas & Electric was called to the scene to evaluate the electric cable wires extending to the house for damage as they were directly above the three burning vehicles, which were all side by side.
Earlier that day the CVFD had another car fire on Fostertown Road, which was also suppressed without further incident.
