Tanker 635 Arriving
LEE ACRES, NM - Just before noon on June 15th, 2008 San Juan County Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 5527 US 64, the Dollar Saver Store in Lee Acres. As District 6 and District 8 firefighters were responding, dispatch indicated they had reports of something burning up against the front of the building. Units arrived to find light smoke from what appeared to be a trash fire.
A 1 inch booster line was deployed from the first due engine and firefighters had the fire contained in a matter of minutes. The crew continued the application of water until they were sure all of the burning materials were completely extinguished. The fire had not extended into the structure.
While overhauling, fire personnel discovered a buried extension cord that was coming out of the building and running on to the area of origin. While suspected of being involved in the ignition of materials that were stored in this location, the fire remains under investigation by the San Juan County Fire Marshal’s Office.
