LACEY, NJ - On Friday, September 19, 2008 the Forked River and Lanoka Harbor Fire Departments were dispatched to Hilltop Ct. on the report of a working structure fire.

On arrival, Forked River Fire Chief Kevin Flynn found heavy fire and smoke coming from the front of the house. The crew from Forked River's Engine 6031 stretched a 1¾”attack line and made an aggressive interior attack quickly knocking down the fire.

Lanoka Harbor Fire Chief Kevin Perrone arrived on scene and assumed command. Firefighters searched for the family pets which included two dogs and eight cats. The search teams were able to rescue two dogs and two cats. Four cats are still missing and two had died. The pets that survived are being treated and examined by Veterinarians from the Popcorn Zoo Associated Humane Society.

Also responding to the scene were Lacey Police, Bayville Fire Department’s FAST Team, Lacey First Aid and Lanoka Harbor EMS. Waretown Fire Department was on standby for coverage.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Ocean County Fire Marshal.
