DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ - Saturday was met with temperatures in the upper 90's, sunny skies, and one stubborn three alarm blaze in the Lake Trac section of Deptford Township. It was 4:14 p.m. when firefighters throughout the town were alerted to a dwelling fire at 730 Wills Avenue. First incoming personnel to arrive on location immediately reported to communications a two and a half story single family dwelling, smoke showing at the address.
The all-hands was struck within seconds and apparatus quickly began showing up but were faced with heavy smoke, and fire pushing it's way through the attic. Water supply lines were being established for incoming firefighters, while crews already on location started their attack. Multiple hand lines were deployed, master streams preparing to go into service, ladders thrown, and ventilation holes being cut. Wind speeds increased the strength of the blaze and the high humidity wore crews out quickly, requiring three alarms for man-power and equipment; however firefighters were able to gain the upper hand in this battle bringing the fire under control within approximately an hour.
Several mutual aid companies helped make the call including some bordering departments from Camden County. No injuries were reported during the fire and the home owners were not home at the time of the blaze. Fire investigators were on scene; however no determination into the cause of the fire has been made yet.
