OCEAN GATE, NJ - Members of the Ocean Gate First Aid Squad (with three K-9s) and two members of Holmdel Rescue-65 recently attended the Pennsylvania Search and Rescue Council's 5-day SAR exposition that took place from May 3, until May 7, in Lancaster, PA.
These personnel are part of the newly formed Jersey Shore Search and Rescue Task Force and this training week was a perfect time for these members to hone their skills and bring new training information home to other members of their organizations.
Classes attended included Map and Compass (Basic and Intermediate), SAR and the Law, SAR Navigation, FEMA AWR-160, HRD Cadaver Class, Advanced K-9 Disaster Cadaver Class, Evaluating K-9's for SAR, Keys to Implementing and Managing an Effective K-9 Program, Basic and Advanced Grid Search, and much more.
All in attendance felt that they had an opportunity to review their basic skills as well as expand their knowledge in respect to Search and Rescue techniques and operations. Everyone looks forward to additional formal training classes in the weeks and months to come. The members of the Jersey Shore Search and Rescue Task Force train jointly on a monthly basis.
