LACEY, NJ - On June 30, 2009, at 4:05 p.m. the Forked River Fire Department was dispatched to 1016 Sarasota Drive on the report of a working shed fire.
On arrival Assistant Chief Brian Kibitlewski found a fully involved shed and assumed command. Due to heavy winds and explosive fuel loads, the fire was rapidly spreading engulfing two vehicles, sheds, the homeowner and neighboring homes.
Engine 6031 arrived on scene and immediately stretched two 1¾ attack lines. Firefighters were met with multiple explosions, which rocked the neighborhood. Engine 6001 was next to arrive on scene establishing a water supply and stretching additional attack lines to help battle the blaze.
Firefighters from Lanoka Harbor, Waretown, a FAST team from Bayville and Lacey EMS also responded to the scene. The fire is currently under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshals office.
